From the Manitoba Public Service–June is Pride Month and celebrated by millions of people worldwide. It is a time to celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ culture, honour the work of advocates and recognize the ongoing discrimination faced by 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
The Manitoba Public Service strives to be a diverse and inclusive workplace, where everyone, regardless of gender expression, gender identity and sexual orientation, feels safe to be their authentic selves. As head of the public service, I am so proud of the strides we have made.
To continue our progress towards an inclusive public service, we must continually seek to understand, appreciate and celebrate the diverse experiences, backgrounds and identities that we each bring to our roles. To support this effort, Manitoba has partnered with Pride at Work Canada to provide public servants access to tools and resources to promote diversity and inclusivity.
As public servants, we are responsible to support our transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse colleagues, as well as to ensure that government policies and programs are representative of Manitoba’s vibrant and diverse population. We do this best when people feel safe to bring their unique identities and perspectives to their jobs.
