From the CAF–For the sixth year, the Children’s Aid Foundation is proud to be offering the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund for Canadian youth with government care experience (cumulative 12-months) who have not previously completed a post-secondary program. We offer this scholarship in addition to our flagship Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada scholarship, with which you may be familiar.

The Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund (TRSF) aims to provide access to post-secondary education and reward youth who demonstrate community leadership. Each year, the TRSF awards 150 young people through 17 national partner organizations, including 22 students through Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada. This year, a focus will be placed on equity-deserving young people (women, LGBTQ2S+, and Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour and people with disabilities).

The Foundation’s TRSF scholarships are designed to support youth community leaders, who have been affected by child welfare, entering or returning to school for their first post-secondary program. This includes youth with experience in all types of care or youth custody, not just those with permanent care/Crown Ward designations. You may know students who are eligible to apply for this scholarship and can use the funds in addition to any scholarship/bursary funding they are receiving from us or other sources.

We would appreciate your help to circulate this opportunity to your networks and youth widely ASAP– the March 4th, 2022 nomination deadline is coming up very fast! Find out more on our website, now in both English and French.

What’s different about this scholarship?

Unlike other scholarship for youth in or from care, for this National Award:
• Students do not need permanent care/Crown Ward status for this scholarship; it is open to anyone who experienced 12 cumulative months in government care, including foster care and youth custody centres before the age of 18
• Students are guaranteed renewed funding ($2,500 per/year) for the length of their program
• Students must be starting the first year of their program in September 2022 or January 2023
• Funds will be transferred directly to the school and put towards tuition costs
• Students may use funding in conjunction with any other scholarship or funding sources, including other Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada scholarships
• Enrolment and community leadership, not grades, are a criterion for recipient selection
