From the Manitoba Government–The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is Dec. 6.

Nov. 25 begins 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, ending on Dec. 10, which is Human Rights Day. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today, and it remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.

Gender-based violence is rooted in gender inequality and systemic forms of discrimination, such as sexism, homophobia and racism. In order to prevent and end gender-based violence, the societal attitudes, norms and beliefs that contribute to violence need to be challenged and changed.
