From the Winnipeg Free Press–
Sadly, 42 per cent of the 64,000 people who use Manitoba food banks are children and, on average, 536 of those hungry children are in Winnipeg.

Over 1,700 infants in Manitoba receive emergency formula each month from Winnipeg Harvest and there is never enough baby food to meet demand. Winnipeg has the highest child poverty rate in all of Canada.

The First Steps Program is dedicated to raising money to address this need and the social responsibility team of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg (603 Wellington Cres.), known for its radical hospitality, is organizing a fundraiser on Mother’s Day, May 12, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. to help feed those babies.
